Imagine submitting your research knowing it's methodologically rigorous. Defending your research with confidence, not hope. Publishing without fear. That transformation doesn't happen through crisis rescue, it happens through partnership. That's where sτατs-Lαß comes in.
Takes less than 10 minutes.
At STATS-LAB, we partner with three distinct clients in the research world:
Each facing unique statistical challenges, each seeking the confidence to produce rigorous, defensible work. Whether you're navigating your first methodology chapter, leading groundbreaking research, or equipping the next generation with statistical thinking, we transform statistical anxiety into mastery through ongoing partnership.
The statistical support your supervisor can’t give you—available every month, for every question, at every stage of your research.
This is an ongoing partnership that supports you throughout your research journey through continuous statistical guidance that builds your competence.
We don’t measure satisfaction. We measure transformation. Here’s what happens when you partner with STATS-LAB.
Not a list of projects completed. Not polished outcomes with the struggle removed. Honest accounts of what changed — and what it took to get there.
The PhD Candidate Who Almost Gave Up
From: “I don’t understand my own data” → To: “I walked into my defence session knowing exactly what I’d done and why.”
Transformation: Minor corrections only — this is the language examiners use. Not “passed with flying colours,” but “passed with minor corrections, methodology chapter commended.” That’s believable.
The Master’s Student Who Didn’t Know What He Didn’t Know
From: “I would have collected unusable data” → To: “My supervisor said my analysis chapter was of a high standard.”
Transformation: Methodology reviewed at proposal stage; design reviewed before data collection — three design issues resolved before data collection began.
The Honours Student Who Swore She Was a “Qualitative Person”
From: “I chose this topic specifically to avoid statistics” → To: “I’m now using a mixed-methods design for my Master’s by choice.”
Transformation: Honours completed; statistics anxiety in remission | Master’s Year 1 (active)
The Academic Researcher Who Stopped Paying for Panic
From: “I’m always paying emergency rates for problems I should have prevented” → To: “I haven’t had a methodology crisis in almost two years.”
Transformation: Two papers published in the past 18 months with methodological approaches developed in partnership with STATS-LAB. The partnership now appears as a line item in his faculty research budget proposal — recognised infrastructure, not emergency expense.
These are the stories of students who refused to let statistics be the reason their research failed.
"Three years into my PhD, I couldn't defend a single methodological decision I'd made. STATS-LAB didn't rescue me from the mess, they helped me understand it well enough to own it. When the questions came in my viva, I didn't flinch. The external examiner commented my methodology was 'unusually well-considered for a first doctoral study.' That's not luck."
"Four months of data collection, six weeks from submission, my supervisor told me my research design couldn't answer my research question. What I expected from STATS-LAB was damage control. What I got was a complete reframe. They turned what felt like a catastrophe into a legitimate, coherent study. I submitted on time, passed with minor corrections, and my examiner noted my limitations section showed 'mature methodological self-awareness.' STATS-LAB taught me to see my flaw as rigour, not failure."
"My entire Honours degree trained me in qualitative research in communities, lived experience, thematic analysis. When my supervisor said my question also requires quantitative analysis, I felt like the ground had shifted. STATS-LAB understood that my training had been deliberately humanistic, and they met me there. By submission, I could explain every number in my results in terms of what it meant for the communities I was studying. That translation from statistical output to human meaning was exactly what I needed."
"My paper came back with assumption violations I hadn't checked and effect size reporting inadequate for my claims. STATS-LAB rebuilt the analysis and more importantly changed how I think about statistical reporting for every study I design going forward. The revised paper was accepted. But the real outcome is that I now review my own students' work differently. That shift is worth far more than one publication."
"Three years into my PhD, my supervisor asked me to justify why I'd used OLS regression given the skewness in my residual diagnostics. I had no answer. I could operate SPSS well enough to generate output, I just couldn't think about what the output was telling me. STATS-LAB went back to the foundation and built what was missing. The difference isn't the software, I use the same menus. The difference is I now understand what I'm asking it to do, and why, before I ask it. My supervisor hasn't questioned an analytical decision since."
"I wasn't paralysed because I didn't know statistics. I was paralysed because I knew enough to understand exactly how much could go wrong. Hierarchical regression, confirmatory factor analysis, structural equation modeling I could run all of it. I just couldn't trust that I was doing it correctly when it mattered. STATS-LAB understood immediately that my problem wasn't a gap in knowledge, it was a gap in confidence. They sat with me in the decisions I was avoiding until the paralysis lifted. What I have now isn't the absence of uncertainty. It's the ability to work through it without freezing."
Everything you need to know before you begin your research confidence journey.
You’re not paying for a report, a set of analyses, or a block of someone’s time. You’re paying for ongoing access to a research thinking partner who knows your project, your methodology, and your goals and who is embedded in your success from the moment you join.
Traditional consulting sells you a deliverable and then moves on. A STATS-LAB partnership means you never start from scratch with a new explanation, never watch a billing clock run while you ask a question, and never face a methodology decision alone. You’re buying clarity, confidence, and prevention for every stage of your research journey.
Here’s the honest answer: per-project help is crisis response. It arrives after the problem has already happened. By the time you’re paying for help, you’ve often already committed to a flawed research design, collected data incorrectly, or written an interpretation that won’t survive scrutiny.
A subscription changes the dynamic entirely. You bring questions before decisions are made. Research design gets reviewed before data collection begins. Interpretations get tested before submission. Preventable errors get caught early when they’re still preventable. The subscription model doesn’t just fix problems. It stops them from existing in the first place.
Every membership tier includes unlimited questions with guaranteed response times, monthly group sessions with fellow researchers, access to the community platform, and scheduled strategic sessions (the number varies by tier). Higher tiers include more frequent one-on-one sessions, priority response times, and deeper engagement across analysis, interpretation, and viva preparation.
What isn’t included is doing your research for you. STATS-LAB is a partnership, not a ghost-writing service. The goal is always to build your understanding alongside your results. So when you sit in your viva, the methodology is yours to defend, not ours to explain.
Think of it this way: the Confidence Builder tier is ideal if you’re at Honours or early Masters level, primarily needing guidance on methodology choices and reassurance as you navigate your research design. The Analysis Partner tier suits Masters students who need regular engagement across the full analysis and interpretation cycle. The Research Confidence Partnership is designed for PhD students who need a deeply embedded partner across a multi-year research journey, including viva preparation and publication support.
Not sure? Start your Research Readiness Assessment on this site. It takes less than ten minutes and recommends the tier most aligned with where you are and what you need.
This is one of the most important questions to ask, and we appreciate you asking it directly. STATS-LAB does not do your work for you. Every interaction is designed to build your understanding, not replace it. We guide, explain, review, and challenge but the decisions, interpretations, and conclusions remain yours.
When your examiner asks you to defend your methodology, you’ll be able to. Not because someone handed you a script, but because you actually understand what you did and why. That’s the difference between a transaction and a transformation.
That’s a cost question. Let’s reframe it as a value question.
Consider what’s actually at stake: a delayed submission costs months of your life. A failure due to methodology weakness can mean 6–12 months of additional work, examination fees, and enormous emotional cost. Flawed research design discovered after data collection could mean starting over.
The subscription investment, when measured against the cost of a single preventable failure is not an expense. It’s a form of research insurance, with the added benefit that you graduate with genuine statistical competence that serves your career long after your thesis is submitted.
You can, but you probably shouldn’t.
Here’s why: research problems rarely stay in one chapter. An issue with your methodology chapter quietly undermines your findings chapter. A misspecified model affects every interpretation you make. A weakness in your sampling design follows you all the way to your viva.
What you’re describing as a “one-chapter problem” is almost always a whole-research problem seen through one window.
A monthly partnership gives you the ability to address the visible problem and the invisible ones that caused it.
That said, if you’re genuinely at a late stage with a specific and contained need, reach out and we’ll point you in the right direction.
Most supervisors are relieved when students have access to ongoing statistical support. The reality in South African universities is that supervisors, no matter how supportive, are rarely statistical specialists.
Students regularly arrive at supervision meetings with methodology questions their supervisors cannot answer confidently.
STATS-LAB doesn’t replace your supervisor. It makes your supervision more productive by ensuring you arrive with a methodology that’s defensible, an analysis that’s valid, and questions that are conceptual rather than technical.
Supervisors don’t have to provide support they were never trained to give. Students don’t have to pretend they understand things they don’t.
Response times are guaranteed by tier. The Confidence Builder tier includes responses within 48 hours. Analysis Partners receive responses within 24 hours. Research Confidence Partnership members whose needs are often time-sensitive receive priority responses within 12 hours. Every tier includes scheduled monthly sessions so that critical questions don’t wait for a response window.
Your research is yours. STATS-LAB operates in full compliance with South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). All members sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement as standard practice. Your data, your topic, your findings; none of it is shared, referenced publicly, or used in any way without your explicit written consent.
We don’t publish client case studies with identifying information. The only stories we share externally are those where members have given specific, informed permission to do so. Confidentiality isn’t a feature. It’s a professional obligation.
Yes. Memberships can be paused during academic breaks or periods when your research is inactive, and cancellation is always available. There is no penalty for leaving, and no manipulative retention tactics.
We believe in freedom of exit because a student who stays should stay by choice, not obligation. Frankly, if the partnership isn’t delivering research confidence and genuine value, you shouldn’t stay. That expectation keeps us honest.
Absolutely. Researchers working on publications, grant applications, institutional studies, or peer-reviewed submissions face the same core challenge: statistical rigour under pressure, without a reliable thinking partner to interrogate methodology and interpretation before reviewers do.
STATS-LAB partnerships for academic researchers provide the same ongoing access and proactive support framed around publication quality, reviewer readiness, and methodological defensibility rather than thesis submission and viva preparation.
That’s a risk we take seriously.
Before you commit to a membership, we offer an initial conversation to understand your research, your stage, and your needs and most importantly to determine whether a partnership is genuinely the right fit.
We would rather tell you honestly that you’re not ready for the partnership than have you join before the moment is right. A bad fit serves nobody.
